The Neelkanth Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a very popular destination because of its great history. Neelkanth Temple is located about 32 km away from Rishikesh. Neelkanth Temple is the most known temple not only ion India but in foreign too.

The temple has the idol of Lord Shiva as its main deity but there are beautiful carvings of Asuras(Demons) and Devas(divine) along the walls. This explains the grateful history of this temple.

Placed at a distance of 45 km, Piran Kaliyar Sharif is an 800 years old shrine that is surrounded by spacious mountains and lush greenery.

8. LAKSHMAN JHULA

Lakshman Jhula is a very popular pendant bridge across the Ganges river that connects 2 villages. One is Tapovan in Tehri Garhwal district on the other hand the second is Jonk in Pauri Garhwal district. placed about 5 kilometers northeast to the main city of the Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, the entire bridge is made up of steel, which dimensions are 450 feet [450 m] high, and is 70 feet [70 m] above the river.

Lakshman Jhula is well-known to tourists because it is believed that King Lakshman, King Rama's younger brother, had crossed the Ganga River in the area, where the bridge now stands large enough for all to see.

Construction of the bridge was completed in 1929, and now, Lakshman Jhula serves as an intersection bridge across the river, as well as an ancient route to the holy temples of Badrinath and Kedarnath. In modern times, Lakshman Jhula is visited by thousands of tourists each year. Larger temples and famous markets have sprung up in nearby areas, and the whole area is now a major attraction in Rishikesh.

Important sites around Lakshman Jhula include the Terah Manzil temple, the Lakshman temple, and the Ram Jhula and the rest of the site is sensitive to the sounds of delightful mantras and shlokas in the temple.


9. RAM JHULA

The historical landmark, Ram Jhula, was built-in 1986. It is the famous bridge of Rishikesh wich hanging above the holy river Ganges which links Shivananda Nagar to Swargashram. The 750-meter-long bridge is a masterpiece of engineering that connects the religious ashrams found on both sides of the river and provides a bird's eye view of the mighty Ganges and the tranquil landscapes of the Himalayas.

Dehradun has situated about 46 km from Rishikesh. Dehradun is known for its boundless natural luster. This city is often named the Rainy City of India because of the large amount of rainfall which is the main reason for its fresh and cool weather.

Chamba is a place about 65 km from Rishikesh. Chamba is known for its painting. So, it is named as the territory of Pahari paintings. This is a very rare form of painting but thanks to the local artisan, this art of painting are still surviving. The art and culture of this zone is well known as well as is the soothing and calmative ambiance of the area.

Located 81 km from Rishikesh, Kanatal is actually a small mountain town and the beauty of this valley lies in its simplicity. It is located at an altitude of 8500 meters. The town is very picaresque and you will have a wonderful view of the mountain peaks from here.
